Health and Wellness Programs and Genetic Information –

Now that it has become much easier to get DNA information and test it, Health and Wellness programs among employers are in an interesting quandary – is there a way to make positive use of the information without discriminating?  What makes genetic information even more interesting is the familial aspect of the information. When an employer gets DNA information from one employee – it is easy to derive the family connections for other family members that are also employees (or could be employees).

A bill was just introduced into congress that is trying to make it clear that an employer could require DNA information as part of a health and wellness program and not be violating GINA, ADA, etc.
